蟹化（carcinisation或carcinization），又名短尾化，是演化生物学 的一个题目，指甲壳类动物物种在演化的过程中，从其他样式演化成为近似现在的蟹类（短尾下目）相近的形态，特指物种在腹部位置折叠的变化。这个名词由L. A. Borradaile最早提出。

在甲壳亚纲十足目各个物种里，有五组生物（特别是皇帝蟹）曾各自独立发生过蟹化过程。这个转变，科学家认为结果演变出寄居蟹的祖先出来。 另一个例子是瓷蟹科，其物种虽然有着螃蟹的外表，但其实属于铠甲虾总科，其关系与铠甲虾、澳洲寄居蟹、椰子蟹（Birgus latro）及螃蟹更为密切。

In evolutionary biology, carcinisation (or carcinization) is a hypothesised process whereby a crustacean evolves into a crab-like form from a non-crab-like form. The term was introduced by L. A. Borradaile, who described it as "one of the many attempts of Nature to evolve a crab".
