The statement in Islamabad said the activities of the Indian official were in violation of the Vienna Convention.

The Canadian foreign minister Melanie Joly said India's action was unreasonable and clearly violated the Vienna convention on diplomatic relations.

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said in a press statement, " The decision was made due to Cuba's failure to take appropriate steps to protect our diplomats in accordance with its obligations under the Vienna Convention."
